Art in the city

Stroom aims to connect the public domain with social issues and urban developments through art wherever possible. This involves high-quality art that dares to speak, challenge and bring together. Ideally, this will lead to The Hague having a rich public arena in which people speak through a language of polyphony, nuances and complexities. Art can enrich, channel, defuse or soften the debate. It can give new meaning to notions such as public domain and publicness.

Art in public space
Through buitenkunstdenhaag.nl/bkdh.nl you can find all the information about the hundreds of (statues), plaques, sculptures and reliefs in The Hague. This is a project of the municipality of The Hague in cooperation with Stroom The Hague. All data per artwork together with information about meaning and location are bundled online and accessible to everyone. It is now possible to take an online tour of your own city or to use the information as inspiration for a summer outing.

The Sculpture Gallery
The Beeldengalerij in The Hague was conceived and designed by P. Struycken. Its permanent nature and annual new commissions make it a unique form of art in public space: it has been showing a cross-section of Dutch sculpture since the early 1990s.

Art at schools
The municipality has prescribed that when a new school is built in The Hague, 0.64% of the building costs must be spent on art. Stroom advises the various school boards on how to spend these art budgets.
