Art in the public space
The city of The Hague has a rich collection of works of art in public spaces with hundreds of statues, plaques, sculptures and reliefs. The quantity and diversity of art is overwhelming. Special is The Sculpture Gallery in the center of The Hague, conceived and designed by artist P. Struycken on behalf of Stroom. On 40 pedestals, alternating sculptures by renowned Dutch artists are displayed. The Hague is also home to a few iconic land art projects such as Celestial Vault and Park in the Water. In all these projects Stroom is an important party as a client, as a mediator or as a supervisor.
The website of Outdoor art The Hague, which Stroom was able to develop thanks to an impulse from the municipality, brings all these works in The Hague together online. All data per artwork are bundled with information about meaning and location and accessible to everyone: residents of The Hague, tourists, other visitors to the city and art lovers. From historical figures such as William of Oranje, Thorbecke, and Drees Sr., but of course also about the striking statue of Haagse Harry on the Grote Markt or the work The Frog with Umbrella by Karel Appel near the Town Hall. From Escamp to Loosduinen, from Segbroek to Wateringseveld. The site is the access to all information about art in public spaces in The Hague, conveniently arranged by artist, period and type of artwork. It is also possible to search by title or via the map. So everyone can see whose sculpture is around the corner. Wander online through the city along the artworks, follow one of the compiled routes or create your own tour along the sculptures.
