About Stroom

Since 1990, Stroom Den Haag has been the expertise center for art, society, and the public domain. Together with contemporary artists, we explore the culture of coexistence, examine forward-looking societal perspectives, and stimulate the imagination of the public.

OUR MISSION

Stroom Den Haag believes in the essential role of artists in creating a livable city and a resilient society. In all our activities, we aim to connect art, artists, and the city. We contribute to the substantive development of artistic practices and bring attention to socially relevant themes. As a translokal network organization, we work together with partners, residents, and visitors to embody our core values: stimulate, deepen, and connect.

Stimulating, deepening, and connecting are our core qualities. We bring these together in a comprehensive and richly varied program of activities. Since 2022, Stroom has employed an integrated approach to our activities, specifically to foster cross-pollination between the city of The Hague, local artists, public spaces, and visitors from outside. It is this exchange and connection that strengthens our relationship with our audience and stakeholders, as well as deepens our content. Through our activities, we focus on increasing the visibility of artists, addressing socially relevant themes, and actively promoting artistic practice. Central to this are guiding the creation of new work, engaging interested audiences, and developing contextual programs.

We achieve this through three key areas of work: advising on and facilitating art in public spaces and the public domain; supporting The Hague’s artists and initiatives as part of the urban community; and presenting artistically and socially relevant programming for diverse audiences at our location, in The Hague's city center, and with partners both nationally and internationally. These three areas are equally important and interconnected.

Stroom Den Haag receives financial support from the Municipality of The Hague for its public mission.
