Multi-year program: Foodprint 2009 - 2012
Foodprint is a multi-year program about the influence of food on the culture, structure, and functioning of cities, with a particular focus on The Hague. Food and the city are inextricably linked. Street names like the Grote Markt, Kalverstraat, and Lammerschans refer to the historical connection between food and the city. In the past, the line between the origin and endpoint of food was often short and clearly visible. Today, a global network of mostly anonymous producers and supermarket chains provides the daily food for millions of people. What does this mean for the availability, taste, and choices of our food? What effect does this have on our daily environment, both on the structure and functioning of the current city as well as that of the countryside? Bringing food production back to the city and making it visible can strengthen awareness of the value of food and also help create a healthy, green, livable, and sustainable city.
Foodprint is an initiative by Stroom Den Haag and is made possible by:
The Municipality of The Hague, in the context of Groenjaar 2009 and the Citizenship Fund, Mondriaan Foundation, Stimuleringsfonds for Architecture, Fonds 1818, Stichting DOEN, SNS Reaal Fund, Casema Cultuur Fund The Hague, BNG Culture Fund, LTO - Pig Farming Division, TU Delft, InnovatieNetwerk, Province of South Holland, Productschap Tuinbouw, Design Den Haag, Staedion, and Vestia.
