See You in The Hague is a multifaceted story about the ambition and reality of The Hague as the International City of Peace and Justice.

'See You in The Hague', Palestinians shout at the Israeli border guards. See You in The Hague is the headline of the tourist brochure of city marketing The Hague, hoping to attract visitors to the attractive green city by the sea. Stroom's multi-year programme highlights the sunny and shady sides of a city that is not only a residence and seat of government, but has also been allowed to bear the motto 'Peace and Justice' in its coat of arms since 2012. The Hague is host to more than 160 organisations in the field of peace and justice, many of which are located in the 'International Zone'. In this area with regular residential areas, there are disproportionately many high fences, security cameras and police stations. The complex issue of image on the one hand and self-image on the other, of a constructive contribution to world peace and a sometimes destructive effect on the quality of life in parts of the city, of operating on the world stage and switching to the local, of a comfortable peace and an uncomfortable security, of an open society and closed zones - this complexity returns in many guises in See You in The Hague.
