One week after International Women's Day, Stroom invites people to gather in Iliada Charalambous' installation Commoning (un)Common Ground to commemorate women's struggles towards liberation. We provide the opportunity to gather and share the experiences and inspirations of women's communities and radical friendships which are the networks through which women organize, dream, share tools, and create worlds.

The evening starts with the performance Resistant Readings, an ongoing collaborative project by Iliada Charalambous and Sophie Mak-Schram. It is a collective reading of letters of solidarity exchanged between Zapatista women and the Kurdish women's movement. The performance engages with the notion of ‘herstory' - an alternative retelling of history - and reflects on the gathering of a Zapatista delegation with Kurdish women in Eindhoven this past October. Participants of our event on March 15 are encouraged to bring along readings from women and women's movements.

It is not coincidental that this event is organized on the day of the provincial elections. With Commoning (un)Common Ground, Charalambous explores the potential for direct democracy, and proposes a neighbourhood assembly - a way for a group of people to make decisions about their collective ways of living.

This event is part of the exhibition Positions: Elsewheres (on view until 2 July), which presents the work of The Hague-based artists engaging with fragmented sites, landscapes, and plots outside of the exhibition space.
