Can food contribute to a more enjoyable neighborhood with healthier people, where producing food together fosters new connections? This question led artist Debra Solomon to create the Foodscape Schilderswijk project. In collaboration with local residents and community organizations, she and her Foundation Urbaniahoeve are establishing various foodscapes consisting of herb lawns, fruit trees, and berry bushes. Gardening, maintaining, and cooking together is informally connected to urban farming and a shared care for public spaces. Through the active involvement of the residents themselves, the neighborhood is transforming into a beautiful place where people harvest delicious food.
Urbaniahoeve Foundation, a Social Design Lab for Urban Agriculture, encourages city dwellers to manage their own food production and storage.
