We commemorate together

On Tuesday, 30 June at 18:30 hrs, the Trans-Atlantic Slavery Commemoration will take place in The Hague at the Trans-Atlantic Slavery Monument on Lange Voorhout. The memorial, titled Remember Our United Beginning and designed by artist Buhlebezwe Siwani, was unveiled last year.

During this annual commemoration, descendants, residents, civil society organizations, and representatives of local, national, and international governments come together to reflect on the history of the Trans-Atlantic slave trade and slavery, and their lasting impact on our society.

The commemoration is an initiative of the Comité 30 juni – 1 juli Den Haag and forms part of the city's annual Keti Koti commemorative and celebratory programme. Together with a range of The Hague-based cultural organizations, social entrepreneurs, and educational institutions, the committee presents a programme of remembrance, connection, and knowledge-sharing, with space for reflection, music, food, and dialogue.

The event is free and open to everyone. The organizers kindly ask visitors to register in advance via this link.

Stroom will be closed to the public on 1 July. Follow our social media channels for more Keti Koti events taking place across the city. We will reopen on Thursday, 2 July, during our regular opening hours.
