Studio visits (online) Lieneke Hulshof
As an extension of the monthly studio visit program, Stroom initiated the Digital Dialogues program, in which artists from The Hague engage in online conversations with an intriguing artist, writer, or curator. You can now sign up for the third edition with the editor-in-chief of Mister Motley, Lieneke Hulshof.
On Thursday 9 July 9 and Friday 10 July 2020, program maker and teacher Lieneke Hulshof will have online conversations via Skype with artists in The Hague about their art practice. She describes her areas of interest as follows:
"Art is never separate from life; it shines a light on the order of the day. When it comes to artworks, I don’t mind what form they take. Whether they are paintings, sculptures, videos, installations, or texts on paper, for me, the most interesting works are those where form and content come together and emerge from observing and studying the world we live in. I also always look at an artist's body of work. I enjoy it when certain works, which may seem incomprehensible at first glance, find their place through other works the artist has created. By this, I don’t mean that an artist has to dedicate their entire life to a single theme, but that the artworks are interconnected. For example, a drawing from 2011 can very well speak to a video from 2017, which might stem from a line of poetry from 2008. I appreciate practices where the artist’s way of looking at the world becomes visible through the different works in their oeuvre. Additionally, I have a particular interest in language, and I find it fascinating that with language we don’t just describe our world, but also help shape it."
