Studio visits Stijn Maes: 28 and 29 November
On Tuesday, Nov. 28 and Wednesday, Nov. 29, 2023, curator, art critic and teacher Stijn Maes will make a series of studio visits to artists in The Hague. Stijn Maes is director and senior curator at the Frans Masereel Center, a contemporary arts center in Kasterlee (B) that combines an artist-focused artistic program with an international residency program for artists and critics, with a specific focus on printed matter-at-large.
Stijn Maes describes his areas of interest as follows:
"Given my position at the Frans Masereel Centrum, I'm always curious to learn about new artists who want to deepen or challenge their contemporary practice through one or more aspects of printed matter - without fetishizing the medium as such. My soft spots relate to art history, folk tales, modernism, public space and artists as critical bodies. Most of the times this results in collaborations with artists who offer us tools to question both the essence of art and the world around us."?
