Update Molenvlietpark: information signposts Molenvlietpark highlight the work of Michael Rakowitz
Last Thursday on 16 April, new information signposts were installed in Molenvlietpark in The Hague. They not only draw visitors’ attention to the remarkable archaeological finds in the park, but also to the artwork Be longing by artist Michael Rakowitz. Archaeological discoveries in and around the park - such as a ceramic field flask, pilgrim badges, the skeleton of a horse, and a roof tile - served as inspiration for this artwork. In it, Rakowitz combines a longing for one’s homeland with the search for a new home. For the project, he invited residents of The Hague to share their personal stories and to donate tableware from their countries of origin. In seven art objects, spread throughout the park, the ceramic fragments have been brought together and the stories resonate within them.
Be longing was commissioned by the Municipality of The Hague as part of the Rotterdamsebaan project and was realized in collaboration with Stroom Den Haag. More information can be found at https://archeologie.denhaag.nl/ and BKDH.nl.
