In November and December, the façade of Das Leben am Haverkamp will transform into an open-air cinema. Every two weeks, a new experimental triptych will be presented, and you can be part of it! We are looking for new voices from artists and makers working in the field of animation, visual arts, (digital) fashion, and costume design. Do you have video work that relates to the theme Costumes? Submit your film, and your work might be screened in public in the heart of The Hague, visible to everyone.

Following up on previous editions in which we have been exploring Alter Egos, Luxury, and Fakeness, this edition zooms in on the phenomenon of the costume. Whether it takes the form of uniforms, masquerades, carnival attire, drag, cosplay, or mascot suits; wearing a costume transforms us. We explore how costume blurs the boundary between reality and play. How does it shape the roles we perform in everyday life? How can it allow us to escape reality? In what ways is costume used as a tool of hierarchy, or as a form of social armour?

Together with a new generation of makers, Das Leben am Haverkamp will explore the transformative power of costume.

Our studio is located at a lively thoroughfare on the edge of central The Hague, The Netherlands. Strolling around from their homes to work/for the sake of Chinese food/to go to the mosque/for shopping/amids The Hague’s contemporary art scene/to the cinema/to the red light district, your work will reach a diverse audience passing by our studio. Maybe your film will be screened during Hoogtij, a festive art route in The Hague.

Practical information
Selected filmmakers will receive 1151 euro artist fee to develop a suitable edit of their submitted work. Our big windows will operate as three separate portrait orientated projection surfaces, ready for you to be covered with moving images. Please note that the screening does not allow sound. Technical support for installing the work will be provided.

Window dimensions:
Left: 735 x 2140 mm, middle: 1590 x 2440 mm, right: 720 x 2140 mm

Applications will be reviewed by an external selection committee. This year's committee consists of Ruben Verkuylen (wysiwyg), Simic Over (derkover.com) and Peter Paul Marijnen (neighbour). The selection of the artists will be based on the quality of the work, the connection with the theme Costumes and how it suits the given context of the window.

Applicants will be notified about the selection results at the end of September.
