Zefir7 is the monthly designers cafe in collaboration with BNO. This time with Kylièn Sarino Bergh and Selina Landis.

While technological innovations and new media approaches seem to streamline the aesthetics of contemporary communications, ornamental and expressive approaches emerge to challenge the increasing standardisation. This evening will reflect on the expressive approach to graphic design from two distinct angles.

Kylièn Sarino Bergh (1994, NL) is a researcher and practitioner in the field of graphic design. He is fellow at the Wim Crouwel Institute in Amsterdam and lectures on the histories and theories of graphic design at the Royal Academy of Arts in The Hague (KABK), the Vrije Universiteit in Amsterdam (VU) and the University of Amsterdam (UvA). While his practise as a designer is opted to the cultural field, his research focusses on the relation between graphic design and the ornament.

Selina Landis (1993, CH) is a freelance graphic designer based in The Hague. Often working collaboratively, she brings an experimental approach to communication design, exploring how hands-on materials and tactile processes can enrich digital work. Fond of analog techniques, decorative arts, and simple handicrafts, Selina blends expressive, ornamental aesthetics with functional communication. She graduated from the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague in 2020.
