On Wednesday 30 August 2023, Stroom Den Haag and Platform BK present a program exploring the accessibility and transparency of the so-called ‘open calls' in the art world. With the program we seek to facilitate a meaningful dialogue between those who craft open calls and those who participate in them.

A Call to Open Calls
is a two-part program and consists of a workshop for cultural workers in the morning and a public program in the afternoon.

In the afternoon we will be opening the floor with a panel talk and public discussion reflecting on the findings of the workshop and the publication Elephant in the Room, a collaborative project with Conflictorium - Museum of Conflict (Ahmedabad, IN). The conversation focusses on existing infrastructures in the art world; specifically on issues dealing with transparency and accessibility of the open call format, as well as the various ideological and practical aspects of application and selection. Together we aim to work towards a more inclusive and equitable landscape for artistic opportunities.

PROGRAM
14:00 - 14:15 hrs: walk in
14:15 - 15:30 hrs: panel talk and public discussion
15:30 - 16:00 hrs: drinks

Throughj Eventbrite, you can register for the public program.
If you are you interested in the workshop, limited seats are available through Platform BK (mail to harriet@platformbk.nl).

A Call to Open Calls was initiated by questions and conversations towards the open call format by artists Alina Lupu and Michiel Teeuw with Platform BK. The event is situated in the context of Elephant in the Room, the publication Stroom produced last year in partnership with Conflictorium - Museum of Conflict (Ahmedabad, IN) as part of the program Our House, your Home.  The publication focuses on the challenges of existing infrastructures in the arts.

The program is generously supported by the Mondriaan Fund and the City of The Hague.
