Vinexlocation Leidschenveen

Location: Leidschenveen, The Hague

In the Dijken sub-area of Vinex location Leidschenveen, what was not successful in the other parts of this district is being made up for: art in public space. Leidschenveen was only added to The Hague after a large part had already been developed and it was only at a late stage that it was decided to make money available for art. Stroom Den Haag was asked to advise on this.

Seven works of art LaSalle (2012)
Design: LaSalle
Location: Rietbuurt De Dijken, Leidschenveen

On Sunday 3 June 2012, mayor Jozias van Aartsen unveiled a large art project for the last new construction of Leidschenveen in The Hague (Rietbuurt De Dijken). Commissioned by Ontwikkel Bedrijf Leidschenveen (OBL) in collaboration with Stroom Den Haag, the artist duo LaSalle developed this art project. LaSalle is a brand name under which Patty Struik and Albert Goederond have gained years of experience with art projects in the public living environment.

The project consists of a heterogeneous collection of seven works of art, which are placed at seven locations spread across the district. The starting point for each work of art was a hyper-individual experience or preference from LaSalle's own daily life. This was the starting point for a process-based creation of the works of art in which polarity, the principle of complementary poles, was the central starting point.

Although the seven works individually have an autonomy, a similar approach and method brings the images together. Through their colorfulness and detail, the direct craft and handwritten approach, formats in the compact-large size, collage-like structure, they form a unity.

On the occasion of the project, OBL has published a booklet entitled Art in the Dikes and an app has been developed, which draws your attention to the works of art on site.

'de Terp' (2009)
Concept: Laurens Kolks and Dennis Lohuis
Design: Laurens Kolks
Location: noise barrier De Dijken, Leidschenveen

The artwork consists of a snow-white church, which was built on the highest point of the noise barrier De Dijken. The church was designed by Laurens Kolks of Laurens Kolks Ontwerpprojecten on behalf of Ontwikkelingsbedrijf Leidschenveen (OBL) based on a concept that he developed together with Dennis Lohuis of Ontwerpbureau Puntkomma. From the church, one can see the entire new Leidschenveen district.

Laurens Kolk: ‘The church is a reduced and abstracted version of a regular church. The building is inaccessible to the public, but contains a working bell tower (including clockwork and bell) with a uniquely programmed bell program.'
