In playground Cantalouphof next to Willemsparkschool, the sculpture “Avatar- Embraced” has been placed, originally made by young art school student Sigrid Adriaens, who unfortunately died 20 years ago in New York. Sigrid had once expressed a wish that children could play on the sculpture. Her mother therefore made a huge effort in recent years to give the sculpture a place somewhere. It turned out that as a local resident she was very involved in the new Willemsparkschool and had dropped the idea for the sculpture there. The school was immediately enthusiastic, but had no place outside. We then went to look and talk with the neighboring Cantalouphof who was open to this. The playground then lifted a device and made a spot for the artwork. It turned out to be a very unusual process for an art at schools commission, involving lots of parties with different interests, but special in the way it was embraced by all and perceived as necessary.
