Paul de Reus, 2005

Location: Elementary school De Jonge Wereld, Den Helderstraat 250, The Hague

For the new building of De Jonge Wereld, Paul de Reus was asked for an art application for the outdoor space. The art committee gave as keywords for the commission: a cheerful, playful work in the otherwise dull street. The work had to be challenging, energetic and exciting but also safe, reliable and warm. The art committee chose Paul de Reus because of the narrative aspect of his work and its quirky humor. The almost classical, monumental, painted bronze sculpture depicts a giant coat with herringbone pattern in which many children are hidden .The sculpture, 3 meters high and 1 1/2 meters wide, is placed at the edge of the schoolyard.
