Olaf Mooij, 1999

Location: Basisschool Het Galjoen, Anna Blamanplein 15, The Hague

The public elementary school Het Galjoen, built by architectural firm Mecano, was the first school to benefit from the special arrangement that Art and Business carried out for the Mondriaan Foundation. Because every meter inside the school was used for educational purposes, artist Olaf Mooij found opportunities outside. He designed part of a foosball table that was placed in enlarged form on the eaves of the gymnasium. The human-height puppets can move by wind power. A corresponding ball hangs in a lantern pole in the playground. The work was unveiled in 1999 by the then Alderman of Education of the Municipality of The Hague.
