Frank Halmans, 2009

Location: Elementary school De Ark, Maarsbergenstraat 169 c, The Hague

For a rugged piece of land in De Ark's playground, Frank Halmans devised an installation of gable-like wooden fences and low fencing that rearranges the space and creates exciting vistas and play areas. Some fences look like blind facades; others have architectural elements such as windows, doors, chimneys or downspouts. The partitions look like set pieces; the children are the actors in their own set. Halmans's art application invites play without the design dictating play.
