Frank Halmans, 2001

Location: Anne Frank School, Beresteinlaan 267, The Hague

Frank Halmans designed a large table surrounded by benches on the forecourt of the Anne Frank School, a public elementary school in The Hague South West, a place where those dropping off and picking up children can meet. The bronze tabletop depicts a fantasy landscape with a small bronze replica of the school in the middle. Across the table is a course of roads, hills and clusters of trees, intended as a playground for the children. Halmans is interested in transitional spaces and gathering places, such as window sills and waiting areas, as well as rites of passage such as sweeping feet upon entry. He also likes to work with functional applications.
