The Design Police, 2015

Location: Prof. Mr. A. Anema School, Eindstede 4, The Hague
Completion: 2015

In the Prof. Mr. A. Anema School there was once a long corridor with a very boring gray wall. Nothing happened in that corridor at all, because all the children were inside the classrooms and were busy learning. Hard work is required to learn math, reading and writing. For the “art in schools” scheme, the Anemaschool chose (from the proposals of Stroom Den Haag) the designer collective De Design Politie from Amsterdam.

Inspired by the bulletin board, De Design Politie designed an interactive magnetic grid where each class creates its own bookworm. Each student receives a colored magnet when he has read a book. Because the grid is magnetic but the word bookworm is not, the bookworm emerges as more books are read. Under the magnetic grid, three bookcases are made on which you can sit and read. Now it has become a very colorful and active corridor.
