Bas Witlox, 2009

Location: De Meerpaal/De Tweemaster, Tesselsestraat 75

Artist and gardener Bas Witlox designed the outdoor space for the new primary schools De Meerpaal and De Tweemaster. The outdoor space is unique in several respects: unusually large (2100m2) and at a very special location: the dunes on the Hague coast. Witlox incorporated the wishes of both schools in various ‘gardens’ connected by the central schoolyard; a design in which the dunes and the sea form the guiding principles. The ‘dune garden’ is a multifunctional meeting place where children can play but also learn, where parents and neighbours can enjoy nature and connect with each other.

The project was realised with co-financing from a large number of sponsors, including Fonds 1818, Gemeente Den Haag, Stadsdeel Scheveningen, Vestia, SCOH and De Haagse Scholen.
