Artist Merijn Bolink created a number of mobiles inspired by drawings made by the school's students. In honor of the opening, a sketchpad was created and given to all the students.
'Did you know that odd numbers are heavier than the even ones?' Children's logic is often inimitable and unique. Merijn Bolink was inspired by this and asked the students of Kindcentrum Kosmos in a number of workshops to think about a number of abstract concepts such as language, math, religion and nature. This resulted in more than a hundred drawings by the students. Merijn took the drawings to his studio and tried to transform them into images and materials. With sticks, ropes and weights he made mobiles out of them and hung them up in the open spaces of the school. The result is a motley procession of objects that represent an internal logic of the students and the artist. The sketches are bundled in a notepad and will provide more food for thought in the future.
Workshops Merijn Bolink
The school's request to the artist was to also involve the students in the development of the design. In the old school building, the artist gave eight workshops in which the vast majority of the pupils from all groups participated. In these workshops, children were asked to come up with ideas and principles related to the theme of balance that could contribute in some way to the design of the artwork. The workshops produced a motley collection of sketches and drawings. Some of the ideas and proposals had a great influence on the final design of the mobiles.
