Cyprien Gaillard (FR)

Cyprien Gaillard (b. 1980, Paris) lives between Paris and Berlin and works in many locations across the world as part of his extensive travelling practice. In 2005, he studied at the Ecole Cantonale d'Art de Lausanne. Selected recent solo exhibitions include PRUITT-IGOE FALLS, Kunsthalle Fridericianum, Kassel (2009); Glasgow 2014, The Hayward Gallery Project Space, London (2008); Homes & Graves & Gardens, Centre d'art et du Paysage de l'Île de Vassivière, Vassivière (2007); Pentagone, L'Atelier du Musée du Jeu de Paume, Paris (also 2007). His work has been included in several recent biennials, including those of Berlin, Busan, Jerusalem and Bucharest in 2008, Lyon and Athens in 2007. In 2008 alone, his work was included in many group exhibitions, including: Affective Landscapes, Sculpture Center, New York; Untamed Paradise, MARCO, Vigo; Greenwashing, Fondazione Sandretto Re Rebaudengo, Turin; Fusion/Confusion, Museum Folkwang, Essen; and Painting the Glass House: Artists Revisit Modern Architecture, The Aldrich Contemporary Art Museum, Ridgefield. Whilst this is Gaillard's first exhibition in the Netherlands, he gave an artist's talk at the SMBA in January 2008 and several pieces of his work have recently entered the collection of the Museum Boijmans van Beuningen in Rotterdam. In 2009, he will also undertake a project in the 2nd Maasvlaakte of Rotterdam's port, as part of the ‘Portscapes' project curated by Latitudes and SKOR.
