De Gantel and Maria Montessorischool, Wateringseveld, The Hague

De Gantel and the Maria Montessorischool occupy one building in Wateringseveld (a suburb of The Hague). The artist Hans van Bentem had already been commissioned to design a fountain for the square in front of the school building, and consequently was also invited to create a new work of art for the schools themselves. Van Bentem wanted to use the moulds he made for the fountain as roof sculptures. In the end, however, he chose to use seven existing sculptures instead. These fashion victims had been on tour of a number of museums and galleries and were in need of a permanent location. The sculptures have been placed at various locations in the schools, with lots of children running around.
