Atelier van Lieshout, Veelhoofd, 2010

Center of The Hague: Spui - Grote Markstraat - Kalvermarkt

Part of The Sculpture Gallery

Polyester material painted in pronounced colours ranging from bright orange to mud brown. That is how you can recognize the sculptural objects and furniture designed by Joep van Lieshout (1963) and produced by his company Atelier van Lieshout. His sculptures and installations are often about the consequences of the ever-growing efficiency of our contemporary society. But that is not the case with this sculpture. Van Lieshout never gave a clear explanation about what is means. It seems like he stacked various associations on top of each other: a scull, a potato eater and a Halloween mask.
