Anne Frankschool, Beresteinlaan 267, Den Haag

The artist Frank Halmans designed a huge table with benches, both made of bronze, for the front yard of elementary school Anne Frank. The table and benches function as a meeting point for parents, relatives and friends who drop off or collect their children. The bronze table top represents a fantasy landscape with in its center a miniature version of the school. The whole of the table top is inlayed with a road tracks, hills and clusters of trees: an ideal playground for children. Halmans is fascinated by transitory spaces and meeting points, like windowsills and waiting rooms, but also by transitory rituals like wiping your feet before entering.
