Shopping mall Leyweg

The guard house of Andrea Blum (New York) is situated next to the newly renovated Leyweg shopping mall. The ingenious little building, made of glass and stainless steel, is a prime example of modern architecture.
The bikehouse is composed of two squares placed on top of each other, one made of glass, the other of steel. One rotates 20 degrees and in so doing creates three exterior fragments which provide two gardens for the bikehouse attendant and one ledge for the paying customer. Above the ledge is a paying window which is replicated in the interior space of the house separating the bathroom from the kitchen. Money exhange is the pivot of the design as the hands of the paying customer are mimicked by the washing of hands by the attendant.
