Center of The Hague: Spui - Grote Markstraat - Kalvermarkt

Part of The Sculpture Gallery

Do you think these forty bulbs were haphazardly stacked on top of each other? Of course not! Leo Vroegindeweij (1955) arranged them in such a way that the center points form a mathematical model. It is a structure that is also very common in nature. In spite of the abstract form you can also discover a classic pose with an engaged leg and a free leg. The repetition of shapes, dimensions and contrasts like form and counterform, positive and negative, are essential for Vroegindeweij.
