Auke de Vries
(1937, Bergum (Friesland) is a sculptor of both national and
international renown. His oeuvre ranges from intimate sculptures to
monumental work in public space. One of his most famous works is the
Maasbeeld in Rotterdam, a sculpture of 200 meters in length along the
Willemsbrug (1980s). The city of The Hague also commissioned several of
his works: a.o. one near the railway station Hollands Spoor, and one in the
atrium of the new parliament building: 'Netherlands, Country by the Sea'.
The
jury of the Ouborg Award 1997 consisted of: Rini Dippel, Ton van Kints,
Hans Locher, Philip Peters and Lily van Ginneken.
