Ondertussen: Ingmar König

28 June - 28 August 2016
Location: Hogewal 1-9, The Hague
Open: Monday - Friday, 11-5 pm; Saturday - Sunday, 12-5 pm
(4 July - 28 August closed in the weekend)

In the Ondertussen space Ingmar König shows a selection of photographs from his most recent publication entitled ‘≤' and also a lighting installation. Some of the photographs are autonomous works, others are more documentary in nature or are registrations of situations he encountered at locations in the Netherlands, Germany, Spain, Portugal and India.
For this and other presentations Ingmar König deliberately uses (artificial) lighting in order to manipulate the atmosphere of the space and the colour spectrum of the presented works, thus controling the perception of the viewer. He often works with a combination of both cold and hot sources of light, like patio heaters, flash lamps or LED strips.

For his Ondertussen presentation Ingmar König has chosen an ‘indirect' chaotic lighting system, reminiscent of situations outside of Western Europe, where there is an abundance of overhead electrical wires suspended over the streets. A similar jumble of wires is clearly visible in the Ondertussen space. The tangled knot of spots, light bulbs, LED strips and fluorescent tubes illuminates the dark-grey space in an uneven way. This way König attempts to pull the photographic works loose from a uniform presentation lit by fluorescent tubes. The photographs are printed on plexiglass and are presented at a certain angle, so that the viewer also sees the indirectly reflected lights.

Ingmar König received a PRO Invest grant in 2015.

Ondertussen
The Ondertussen space links Stroom's exhibition program to its enabling policy for artists. This policy aims to strengthen and improve the visibility of The Hague's artistic climate. Presentations in Ondertussen are usually the result of subsidies provided by Stroom, but can also show the results of mediation by Stroom or of other stimulating activities. The presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the grant applications and the positive effect of our enabling policy for artists. The presentations can vary from (interim) reports of (research) projects and residencies to network presentations. The Ondertussen presentation is the responsibility of the applicant.
