Ondertussen: Thom Vink

November 11 thru December 30, 2007
Location: Hogewal 1-9

The former reception area of Stroom has been converted into a small exhibition space. On a regular basis there are presentations of artists who have received a subsidy in the categories Stroom PRO- and SPOT-grants. The informal exhibitions and presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the Stroom grant system. The program in the space is called Ondertussen (Meanwhile).

From May 15 until August 6, 2006 Thom Vink worked as an artist-in-residence at the Aomori Contemporary Art Centre in Aomori, Japan. During this period he did research into the complexity of the city, a phenomenon he interpreted in variety of ways. Not only as a reflection and abstraction of human culture, but also as an atonomous entity in the process of growth and continuous change.

In Aomori he also started the video project ‘Dust', a collaborative project with the artist Saara Ekstrom. Small metal particles move around to form decorative patterns. In 2008 he will continue with this project during a 2 month residency (and an exhibition) at the Youkobo Art Space in Tokyo, Japan.

In 2006 Thom Vink received a Stroom Research and Development Grant for this proposal.
