How should we listen to the sea in the Anthropocene? The North Sea Embassy joins artists and scientists in the research of this topic. Cultural sociologist Ruben Jacobs gives tips and suggestions based on his book Artonauten, Op expeditie in het Antropoceen (2018); anthropologist Ester Heiman presents the voices of the North Sea and artist Carmen Schabracq presents an an artwork in the form of an ossicle, which will serve as the mouth and ear of the sea.

The North Sea Embassy was set up on 1 June 2018 at Lange Voorhout 19 in The Hague, on the basis of the principle that ‘the see belongs to itself'. It gives a voice to things, plants, animals and people in and around the North Sea. The Embassy views the North Sea as a political partner, with a constituency that stretches from France to Norway, and from the seabed to the atmosphere. From microscopically tiny users such as plankton, to large users such as people and whales.

That same year various events took place at Stroom as part of the program De Dingen (2018).
