Zefir7 is het maandelijks ontwerperscafé bij Stroom Den Haag i.s.m. BNO. Deze keer een avond met de legendarische 'grunge typographer' David Carson, die zal vertellen over zijn ervaringen als ontwerper (hij is autodidact) en zijn visie op grafische vormgeving.

"I've said it a lot, but I really never did learn all the things I wasn't supposed to do. I started with no experience and just tried to do what made sense to me, without knowing any rules or schools of thought or famous people." - David Carson

David Carson
David Carson (1955) is possibly one of the most legendary graphic designers of this age. He has changed the way we look at typography, legibility and the use of grids. His work is experimental, intuitive and bold. Cutting, ripping and the use of several collage techniques have defined his works since the 1980s.
Carson worked as a sociology teacher at a high school while he was a competitive surfer (9th world ranked). He discovered his interest in graphic design during a summer workshop. Being educated in the field of sociology led him to explore editorial design, this was where he could work on real stories, about real people. David Carson was an art director for magazines like Beach Culture, Transworld and Ray Gun. In 1995 Carson founded his own studio and has worked with clients as Nike, Microsoft, NBC, Levi Strauss Jeans, MTV, Quicksilver, Mercedes-Benz ever since.
