Spumeniks are memorials to the Second World War found everywhere in the former Yugoslavia. They were built in the 1960s and 70s during the communist regime, but their symbolism has been lost in translation as the visual language changed because of a shifted worldview. They were objects of blind fury in the 1990s and after that of indifference, abandoned to the natural elements. The Antwerp-based photographer Jan Kempenaers undertook a laborious trek through the Balkans to photograph a series of these mysterious objects.

In 1955 richtten de drie grootste musea voor moderne kunst in Nederland het tijdschrift Museumjournaal op in een poging het brede publiek te winnen voor de twintigste-eeuwse kunst. Binnen tien jaar groeide het blad uit tot de informatiebron voor eigentijdse avant-garde kunst in ons land. De zin voor verandering en experiment maakte Museumjournaal het epicentrum van het kosmopolitische Nederlandse kunstklimaat van de jaren zestig. In 1996 hield het blad op te bestaan.

I worked on drawings in Moscou for three years. Every week during the last year I drew on Zetternamstraat. This street is separated from the rest of Moscou by two different railway lines. When I asked people in Zetternamstraat whether they ever got tired of the chalk lines, they said that the drawings belonged on their houses.The drawings are proof of the boundless hospitality I was shown by the residents.

Sound can be deployed to produce discomfort, express a threat, or create an ambience of fear or dread - to produce a bad vibe. Sonic weapons of this sort include the recent deployment of Long Range Acoustic Devices at the G20 Summit in Pittsburg, sonic booms or sound bombs over the Gaza Strip, and high-frequency rat repellants used against teenagers in malls. At the same time, artists and musicians generate intense frequencies in the search for new aesthetic experiences and new ways of mobilizing bodies in rhythm. Steve Goodman explores these uses of acoustic force and how they affect populations.

In veel oudere stadswijken vindt sinds enkele decennia grootschalige herstructurering plaats. Transvaal in Den Haag is zo'n wijk waar tot 2015 op grote schaal huurwoningen worden gesloopt, waarvoor merendeels koopwoningen in de plaats komen. Beeldende kunst wordt tijdens zo'n proces vaak door beleidsmakers ingezet als instrument ter verbetering van de leefbaarheid in de wijk. Mobiel projectbureau OpTrek functioneerde in Transvaal tussen 2002 en 2010 als aanjager van diverse projecten in de wijk.
