Fiets&Stal
The project Fiets&Stal was initiated in the year 2000 when 12 artists and designers from The Netherlands and abroad were invited to design guard houses for bicycle shelters in The Hague. The project was inspired by the guard house that Frank Halmans designed for a bicycle shelter in the city center in 1998.Fiets&Stal is a longterm project, developed in harmonious collaboration by Stroom Den Haag, the city of The Hague and the Stichting Biesieklette (which manages a chain of bicycle shelters in The Hague), from the viewpoint of 'art', 'production' and 'use' respectively. In the design of the guard houses, each artist is required to follow a strict set of rules. Nevertheless all the guard houses are very different and vary from sober containers to sci-fi-inspired buildings.
