On Saturday 21 June 2014 alderman Ingrid van Engelshoven unveiled the sculpture De Speler (The Player) by artist Folkert de Jong on the Koningsplein in The Hague.

De Speler (The Player) is Folkert de Jong's first permanent sculpture in public space. Source of inspiration was the historical figure of the court jester and his ambivalent position as the person who has to entertain and even riducule the king, but also is dependent on him as his employer. On his pedestal in the centre of the crowded Koningsplein he can be both king and court jester.
