Michael Rakowitz: Be Longing

6-22 April, 2024
Opening: Saturday, 6 September, 15:00 -17:00 hrs
Location: Ypenburg Library, Schrabber 8, The Hague

On Saturday, 6 April, Marion Beaujean, district director Leidschenveen-Ypenburg, opened the presentation on Michael Rakowitz's special art project Be Longing.

'A city where everyone feels at home is made together,' Michael Rakowitz said. It is the core of his artistic practice and in particular for the artwork that will rise in the Molenvliet Park in The Hague at the end of this year. In the city where a large number of residents have a migration background, the artist is creating an artwork that brings people together and connects society. Rooted in encounter and dialogue, the work Be Longing is realized by residents sharing stories of family history and migration. Stories from far away and close by. Personal but also timeless stories, which live on in the future artwork.

Be Longing makes other perspectives visible, forges new bonds, and thus adds a new layer to the city's history.

On 29 and 30 June 29 2024, participation dinners will be held at Molenvliet Park to share stories and donate dinnerware.
