Ondertussen: Floris Kaayk

July 26 thru September 7, 2008
Location: Hogewal 1-9

The former reception area of Stroom has been converted into a small exhibition space. On a regular basis there are presentations of artists who have received a subsidy in the categories Stroom PRO- and SPOT-grants. The informal exhibitions and presentations are intended to illustrate the diversity of the Stroom grant system. The program in the space is called Ondertussen (Meanwhile).

When still attending the academy for visual arts and design St. Joost in Breda, Floris Kaayk made two animated films which were very well received both in Holland and abroad: ‘The Order Electrus' (2005) and ‘Metalosis Maligna' (2006). The films present a doomsday scenario and hyper-realist view of the future and of a world inhabited by mutating organisms and new forms of life, predicting the end of humanity as we know it.

For his new project ‘After the Great Flood' Floris Kaayk received a PRO-Research grant from Stroom Den Haag, enabling him to develop the storyboard of the film and to build a number of models. Thus it became possible to apply for (and receive) a production subsidy from the Dutch Filmfonds. Shooting will start in the fall of 2008.
